Georgetown Lake and the Tom Bennhoff Lake Trail
The Town's lake at the north end of Georgetown, with fishing, non-motorized boating and a roughly two-mile loop trail; ice fishing and permit-only ice driving in winter.
Georgetown Lake sits at the I-70 end of town. The Town of Georgetown’s Lake, Parks & Trails page says fishing needs a license (children 16 and under do not), with a limit of four fish a day and no minimum size; only non-motorized boats are allowed, meaning kayaks, paddle boards, canoes and fishing tubes; and the newly built Bennhoff Lake Trail circles the lake in a loop of about two miles. The Town’s trail page (https://www.townofgeorgetown.us/town_government/tom_bennhoff_lake_trail.php) puts the trail entrance and sign on the southeast side of the lake just off 22nd Street.
In winter the Town’s page describes ice fishing as popular, “use at your own risk”, and says ice driving is by permit only in January and February, with the Our Gang four-wheeling club running paid fun days under its permit. The Town’s news list also carries an undated notice titled “Georgetown Lake Ice Safety Reminders: Ice Fishing Prohibited Due to Added Safety Risks” and a December 2025 item urging caution on the lake, so check the Town’s news page before going onto the ice. The same page lists the Town’s other parks: City Park, Greenway Park, Meadows Park, Strousse Park, Triangle Park, the Warming Hut / Wildlife Viewing Park and Werlin Park, with a parks map PDF. Facts from the Town’s Lake, Parks & Trails and Tom Bennhoff Lake Trail pages, read 10 October 2026.
